Note: I have to confess that this set of pages is getting way out of date. I'm not doing much NC diving lately, and really not much diving at all. I have however been adding shop updates, etc as they are sent in. If you know of someone (preferably an active hobby diver) that would like to take the information I've collected and maintain it, please have them contact me. It is time to pass this along to someone else. I don't mind if it is a shop, but I do want them to maintain the shops list, so in effect they will be advertising for their competitors, so if you are a shop, please consider that first and make sure you feel ok about it. The information I have gathered was under the presumption that none of this would be used for my commercial gain, and it has not been. I'd like to see the information continue in that way. It's by divers, for divers, seeking only to communicate, not to sell. Its all simple HTML (that's my style), and I can help someone get it set up, but would like to see some example of any HTML you have done before :-). Thanks, Mike. 9/11/2001.
I started this page since people are regularly asking about NC diving on the various on-line services. With the (poor) off-shore weather the past two years, the new info on the site has largely come from other divers, whom I very much thank. Several people have also submitted very nice quarry maps, and even the new NC flag shown above (thanks to Jonathan G. Van de Riet). Anyway, I'm hoping for a hurricane-free year this year :-) and some info on some wrecks I haven't made it to yet...
Do check out the links to dive shops and charter operators as they get on-line. They simply will have better up-to-date info than can be provided here, although even then I suppose a localized list of (NC) dive stuff will still be needed (commercial operations have a funny habit of not wanting to tell you about the web pages of their competitors...)
Well, we've got it pretty good here, as the coast is (literally) littered with wrecks, enough quarries exist for practice (and training), and we're only an 8 hour drive from the springs (and caves) in Fla.
This page will grow as I have time to update it. I'm grateful for any submissions from others, or pointers to web sites of their own which fit in with the themes of this site. As noted above, much of the material on this site has been donated by others. Many thanks.
Other than things that are just blatant advertisements I'll try to add anything someone cares to pass along (relative to NC diving). If you don't see it here, its probably because I simply don't have any information about it. The easiest way to fix that is to drop me email and tell me about it. And if something is incorrect, again just drop me a line and I'll get it corrected.
As for general scuba web links I generally intend to point to lists that other
people maintain rather than try to duplicate their efforts. I've no interest
in becoming a cataloguer of anything other than NC diving web sites.
I also want to keep the page compatible
with as many web browsers as possible, so I won't be putting in
any really fancy stuff.
If you are a new diver or new to North Carolina, check out the listing of shops and clubs.
